We’re back with the New Mutants “B” team a/k/a the Amalgamated Young Mutants of Krakoa, LLC for this issue – and what’s more, they’re taking us all on a trip to Nova Roma. It’s a weird one-and-done, that – in about 10 minutes – you might just forget you’ve even read! Let’s hope the same can’t be said for your listening experience!
Also: Sebastian Shaw does something pretty cool… so, at least there’s that!

This was my last issue of New Mutants. I gave up when I realised that Hickman wasn't coming back. My problem with the Brisson issues of New Mutants is they feel very arbitrary. He's putting together teams of characters who feel inorganic and ignore past continuity. Boom Boom was involved in the story where it was revealed that Nova Roma was fake. Claremont later retconned that retcon but surely the fact of that story should be acknowledged. Based on that I would expect Magma and Boom Boom to have a slightly strained relationship. At least Boom Boom should be questioning Nova Roma. She would still think it's a fiction. This only works if we accept that all the "junior" characters have bonded off-panel. Hickman had the wisdom to reference that Chamber and Mondo didn't really know the other New Mutants.
There's nothing actively bad about this book but I just feel like all the meaty stories are happening just off panel.
