When being a part of only one mass-crossover event isn’t enough – today’s issue of X-Men (vol.5) ties into TWO!  We’re both cashing-in on Empyre and one the Path to #EcksofTens… er, X of Swords.  Event Fatigue?  Nahhh, it’s all in our heads, just like “writing for the trade”!

Today we’re going to be witness to Magneto… well, kicking ass like only he can do – while Exodus indoctrinates the youth of Krakoa… with the truth?  We’re gonna be talking a lot about that… I hope you decide to join us!

It's weird to be reading Ecchs of Tens lead-ins after reading the actual crossover. I think I've already shared that I gave up every X-book except Marauders after the Brood story but came back with X of Swords Creation. This means I see the portents more clearly than I would have if I'd read this book as released. Rockslide being presented as the first character to approach the Summoner explains why he is so important in Ecchs of Tens.

The Cotati invasion is presented perfectly in the rest of the issue. This issue actually makes me angrier about Empyre X-Men as it is clear that Hickman had a story that could incorporate Empyre into his Krakoan World-building. Hell, just adding Exodus indoctrinating the kids to that series would have given it a level of importance with very few changes. He could have editorialized about the Pretender and presented Explodey Boy as an example of the selflessness of mutants. Genuinely this issue makes the crapness of Empyre X-Men more offensive.

It's nice to have another issue of X-Men that plays to Yu's strengths. He is the perfect artist for alien invasions as he gets to draw lots of fighting and explosions. He's less good at drawing smiles. I can't imagine anyone trusting someone smiling like the Summoner does for a single moment. He comes across as really creepy and evil.

May I suggest X-Lapstination for the next spin-off? Anyway until the entire nation of Krakoa does dry January- make mine X-Lapsed.

Having just seen what autocorrect wants to change X-Lapstination to maybe you should choose something else.
